At the beginning of the book, Megan is in a care home. She’s had a stroke and a bad fall that have left her temporarily unable to move or communicate. It’s an inadequate care home and the often-unintentional neglect is shocking. Sometimes this neglect tips over into abuse.
Gideon and her friends believe that she’s away on a tour and so she faces the horror, loneliness and humiliation on her own. Whilst in the home she has plenty of time to reflect on her life and the decisions that have led her to this situation.
Will she succumb to Annie – the carer who has most reason to hate her – or will she be reunited with Gideon?

Someone Close to Home by Alex Craigie is a great, emotional, and very compelling book. The plot is overall sad but it is captivating. The story of the main heroine, her ups and downs since she was a kid and all the hardships are sorrowful. This book is one of the few deep emotional provoking books that I've read and I'm glad I did. It is so unfortunate that what I've read is happening somewhere in the real world... Anyway, I recommend this book and I think it deserves 5 stars.
The plot is engaging and the fact that is skipping through time so seamlessly is amazing. I enjoyed how easy it is to orientate in the timeline. You know some books that are back and forth from the future to past to present can confuse you? Well, this one is not one of them - the writing is superb and the story is moving at a pace that you can follow easily. The story itself was emotionally packed and I really enjoyed every bit of it. I'm happy I read this book. I recommend it :)
