An Imam is captured in Afghanistan by special forces and brought back to the UK for interrogation. The Imam knows that his days are numbered, as he was found in a sexual relationship with another man. An MI6 agent learns about this and proposes that the Imam be captured and used as a spy.

Smythe smells a rat when they discover the perpetrators are hiding in a house outside London, he decides to arrest them, but, before he can, the house and the terrorists are destroyed by a massive explosion. Smythe wants to know who did this and why. What he and his team expose is so explosive that it could bring the government down and destroy any trust in the security services.

Smythe learns the name of a new terrorist who is a major threat, and he and his team pursue him across the country. This leads to one final clash that causes hell in the citadels of power, as the truth is exposed.
