Commander Smythe is recuperating in Botswana following a shooting incident that killed his fiancée, Samantha de Beer, and left him badly wounded in the shoulder. He is staying at a Game Lodge in Botswana owned by friends, Angela and Don Scales.His hopes of a quiet three months of recuperation are shattered when he is drawn into the devastation of the poaching of elephants and rhinos

The whole of Southern Africa is under attack by these poachers, with ivory and rhino horn being shipped out of Dar as Salaam by the cartel leader, Moosa. Smythe brings his ex-military team out to Botswana, and they are tasked with helping the Scales and their rangers.

Moosa has bought and threatened people in power across Southern Africa, and, except for South Africa, he has a free hand in his activities. When Smythe's team intervene, Moosa takes immediate action against them. What he does not comprehend is that Smythe's team are not ordinary rangers; they are well-trained, battle-hardened men. Moosa uses everything in his power to remove Scales and Smythe with increasing frustration, as each move that he makes is either blocked or neutralised. He cannot allow this to happen as he would quickly lose face and be overthrown by his competitors.
