The spring of 1967 Dr. David Gross, accompanied by his wife and their four- and six-year old sons, travelled to Mexico City where he spent a year working for the United Nations at the Veterinary School of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. His job was to provide practical experience with large animals for the veterinary students. His experiences with the students, animal patients, and his international colleagues, are memorable, as were the family’s discovery of Mexican culture and historical archeology. Everything takes place within the backdrop of societal upheaval leading to the student riots associated with the 1968 Olympic Games.
