The Fork in the Road
Jeffrey Pipes Guice
As I walk down the path I have chosen
And I come to the fork in the road
I’m faced with challenges before me
Where can I add to or lessen my load
For it’s at my every morning’s beginning
When I know I need to build a new base
On this foundation, I will live my best day
To deal with the difficulties I’m forced to face
My life has to be built on solid ground
On strong principles to help me decide
As I get on my knees and ask for His help
The correct answers must come from inside
I could always take the left fork
The fork I know, oh, so damn well
Full of wine, women, and debauchery
It’s also my own personal road to hell
The left fork is one I’ve traveled often
When I was younger and broke every rule
I stayed out drinking all night
Looking for the biggest guys to fight
And had most women call me a fool
After years and years of bad decisions
And waking up with my head in a vice
I finally started asking for help from Above
When a voice said, “You don’t have to ask twice.”
You see, He gave me the tools that I required
To live a good life, one without any pain
But it was up to me to eventually see
To look inside and get out of the rain
Now, I most often take the right fork
And I know the correct way to proceed
Now, each morning, I build a strong foundation
That strong base, through prayer, is what I need
Thank You, God, for giving me this journey
Thank You for allowing me to decide
I’ll continue to work hard every day
And I’ll continue to pray
To make the right choices, with You as my guide
