Down in New Orleans

Where the troublemakers go

Lived the famous voodoo queen

And her name was Marie Laveau

How did her life become a legend

With hardly no proof that could we find

Did she put her spells on evil people

When so many others say she was kind

Some claim that no pictures exist

They say Marie Laveau was shy

Was she too vain to have her portrait painted

That remains a mystery to you and I

Whatever happened to her husband

Was she indeed the loving wife

They say don't ever cross Miss Marie

Or she’ll put a spell on you for life

Some people say she was a pious Catholic

While others say she lived in sin

Some claimed she did away with Pierre

To let another man move right in

Some say she died late one evening

While others claim her soul still lives

We’re all just trying to find the answers

To know what Marie’s real story is

Was she the famous voodoo priestess

Who was the real Marie Laveau

We’ll keep on asking all the questions

And search for answers we all want to know
