He Died For Our Sins
Jeffrey Pipes Guice
The Jews wanted Jesus crucified
So Pontius Pilate washed his hands
He let the Jews decide his fate
The Roman governor met their demands
Bleeding profusely from His head
The prickly thorns punctured His skin
As the soldiers beat Jesus even more
Pushing the thorns even further in
Ensuring the most excruciating pain
On his entire body, they would beat
But to add to all that endless suffering
Iron nails hammered into his hands and feet
“Father, please forgive them
For they do not know what they do.”
Then, Jesus, barely able to speak, said,
"Father, now I commit my spirit to you.”
To end a man’s life by crucifixion
Was the most agonizing form of death
They guaranteed Jesus the worst of pain
All until He would take his final breath
“It is finished,” Jesus uttered quietly
Then He gently bowed His head
As Jesus Christ gave up His Holy Spirit
It was then He was finally dead
Jesus Christ died for all our sins
As He promised He would do
He also promised He would rise again
To save the souls of me and you
On the third day, Jesus rose again
In accordance with the Holy Scriptures
He is seated at the right hand of the Father
An image featured prominently among holy pictures
One day, He will come again in glory
To judge us all, the living and the dead
We will know it's our Jesus Christ for sure
By the halo of light surrounding his head
