When did you start writing?

As a youngster, writing was always my favorite subject in school. Writing was always a passion of mine but life got in the way. Now that I am retired, I can pursue my passion full time.

What’s the story behind your choice of characters?

My story takes place in Tombstone, AZ in 1880. It features real people who actually existed in that time and place as well as fictional characters used to complete the narrative.

We all know the writer’s path is never easy, what makes you keep going? What advice would you give to new authors?

I don't try to force ideas and I recognize that writing is a process. To new authors I would advise to only pursue projects that you are passionate about.

Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with the bad ones?

Yes I read my reviews. When I receive one that is not so great, I remind myself that its no big deal because my book is not for everybody, different people have different tastes.

How do you feel when people appreciate your work or recognize you in public?

Vali Benson
BooksShelf-Interview-Icon.png

Who is your favorite author? Why?

I have so many that I adore, I could not choose a favorite. However, as a child, Margaret Mitchell was a big influence on me. I adored her use of imagery and still do.

BooksShelf-Interview-Icon.png

What’s the dream? Whom would you like to be as big as?

I'll skip.

Vali Benson
BooksShelf-Interview-Icon.png

Would you rewrite any of your books? Why?

No. Hindsight is always twenty/twenty but I feel books are an encapsulation of the best effort that the author is capable of at that point in their life.

Vali Benson
BooksShelf-Interview-Icon.png

If you could switch places with any author – who would that be?

Nobody. I want to be the best writer I can be.

Vali Benson
BooksShelf-Interview-Icon.png

What would you say to the “trolls” on the internet? We all know them – people who like to write awful reviews to books they’ve never read or didn’t like that much, just to annoy the author.

Nothing. I have more important things to focus my energy on.

Vali Benson
BooksShelf-Interview-Icon.png

What would you say to your readers?

I appreciate you more than you could ever know!

Vali Benson

Any "serious" writer who says they don't read all the time, I don't take seriously.

I'm always working and I constantly have ideas that I want to explore.

Vali Benson

What do you think should be improved in the education of our children? What do we lack?

Kids today simply lack the joy of a book. Technology has robbed today's youth of any kind of attention span which is a trend that I don't see reversing anytime soon.
