When did you start writing?

I started writing in 2013. I published a children's book, "Lester's Planet" illustrated by a talented Swiss artist, Bianca Litscher .

What makes writing your passion?

There is no nicer feeling than to put my thoughts into words. It's like drinking a nice cup of hot chocolate on a snowy day.
I self -doubt myself a lot, so writing taught me to deal with my fears( I have many), disregard failure, keep me committed but above all keep focused .
I suffer from dyslexia. Writing at first honestly felt like chaos .
I thought of giving up a thousand times. But living the stories at first in my head, gives me a real sense of peace. I really enjoy writing my ideas in my notebook then on my computer.

How long have you been writing?

Since 2013.

Sylvia Greif

What was the feeling when you published your first book?

Fear! that there might still be some errors that I was unable to spot because my mind has its own way of thinking and sometimes just can't comprehend a mistake . Followed by a strong feeling of happiness and satisfaction.

Sylvia Greif

Sylvia Greif

How do you get over the “writer’s block”?

I go for a walk with my dogs or I choose not to believe in writers block...

Sylvia Greif

We all know the writer’s path is never easy, what makes you keep going? What advice would you give to new authors?

Oh my god! I'm not good at advice.

Write every day and make people believe in your story.

My book was just published so I haven't read any reviews yet.
As for bad reviews... I guess I will be disappointed. It's a normal feeling, who wants a bad review? but its part of the process and I hope it will help me improve my writing.

Sylvia Greif

Which of your characters you can compare yourself with? Did you base that character on you?

I do not compare myself with any of my characters , but there is maybe a little bit of me in the story.

Sylvia Greif
BooksShelf-Interview-Icon.png

What do you think, the book cover is as important as the story?

The book cover is to my eye very important.
The first part of information you get or see is the cover. It gives a face to the story, it creates the first impression. We are all drawn to what we find attractive.
But the essence , the substance of a book without a doubt is more important.

Sylvia Greif
