What makes writing your passion?

Once you start you can't stop.

Sybrina Durant

How long have you been writing?

60 years

Sybrina Durant

What was the feeling when you published your first book?

There was a nice sense of awe that all authors now have a means of getting their book(s) out to the public.

What’s the story behind your choice of characters?

The rabbit and fox characters are part of an age old mnemonic that I heard years ago regarding how to tie a tie. I liked the idea of using them in my story.

What annoys you the most in pursuing a writing career?

Most of the time you are only able to access a very small sphere of influence.

Sybrina Durant

How do you get over the “writer’s block”?

Read, read, read.

Sybrina Durant
BooksShelf-Interview-Icon.png

We all know the writer’s path is never easy, what makes you keep going? What advice would you give to new authors?

Don't do it for the money...just do it because you love it. The competition is immense since self-publishing is available to literally everyone.

Sybrina Durant

If you could go back in time and talk to your younger self, what would you say?

I would say...the moment you hear of something called self-publishing, jump out and do it right then. Don't wait.

Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with the bad ones?

Yes. I see if there is something of value that I can use to better my writing. The rest, I take with a grain of salt.

Sybrina Durant

What is the feeling when you get a good review?

Yay! I reached the right audience with this one.

Sybrina Durant

Have you ever incorporated something that happened to you in real life into your novels?

Everything.

Sybrina Durant
BooksShelf-Interview-Icon.png

Which of your characters you can compare yourself with? Did you base that character on you?

No one in this book. But in my unicorn novel, I am Silubhra.

Sybrina Durant

What do you think, the book cover is as important as the story?

Yes, the book cover is what reels in a potential reader.

Sybrina Durant
BooksShelf-Interview-Icon.png

Do you connect with your readers? Do you mind having a chat with them or you prefer to express yourself through your writing?

I prefer to express myself through writing.

Sybrina Durant

How do you feel when people appreciate your work or recognize you in public?

It's a glorious and short-lived feeling.

Sybrina Durant
BooksShelf-Interview-Icon.png

Who is your favorite author? Why?

Piers Anthony - he is the most clever of all unicorn writers.

Sybrina Durant
BooksShelf-Interview-Icon.png

What’s the dream? Whom would you like to be as big as?

Anyone who can actually live off of their book sales would be satisfying for me. But sure, who doesn't want to be as famous as J.K. Rowling?

Sybrina Durant
BooksShelf-Interview-Icon.png

Would you rewrite any of your books? Why?

Always...because you can always think of more.

Sybrina Durant
BooksShelf-Interview-Icon.png

If you could switch places with any author – who would that be?

No one really.

Sybrina Durant
BooksShelf-Interview-Icon.png

What would you say to the “trolls” on the internet? We all know them – people who like to write awful reviews to books they’ve never read or didn’t like that much, just to annoy the author.

I've experienced those people. I don't understand their motives. They must have sad lives.

Sybrina Durant
BooksShelf-Interview-Icon.png

I hope you enjoyed my book and that you find it helpful to yourself or someone else in your life.
