Exclusive Interview with
When did you start writing?
I started writing in 1996 but didn't try to publish any work until 2011.
What makes writing your passion?
Storytelling has always been a passion of mine. Mixing modern settings with ancient characters and creating new worlds and adventures is my favorite pastime. I love seeing how characters interact in my stories. My stories contain a mix of genres - fantasy, paranormal, sci-fi, and more. It is my passion to craft stories that keep readers on the edge of their seats until the very end.
How long have you been writing?
What was the feeling when you published your first book?
To become a published author was a major accomplishment and it was a dream come true. It was a surreal feeling to hold your first published book in your hand. It was a moment of joy, pride, and accomplishment. It felt like I was on top of the world. It was a feeling I will never forget.
What’s the story behind your choice of characters?
I love taking a character perceived as evil, giving them human-like qualities, and making them vulnerable so readers will care for them. This often creates a sympathetic and complex character that readers can relate to. It allows readers to explore the depths of the character's motivations and actions, and to gain a better understanding of their story and journey.
What annoys you the most in pursuing a writing career?
How do you get over the “writer’s block”?
We all know the writer’s path is never easy, what makes you keep going? What advice would you give to new authors?
If you could go back in time and talk to your younger self, what would you say?
Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with the bad ones?
What is the feeling when you get a good review?
Have you ever incorporated something that happened to you in real life into your novels?
Which of your characters you can compare yourself with? Did you base that character on you?
What do you think, the book cover is as important as the story?
The book cover is the first thing people see. It must grab attention and communicate the story. It should also reflect the genre of the book and its tone. A well-designed book cover can make all the difference in terms of drawing readers in.
Do you connect with your readers? Do you mind having a chat with them or you prefer to express yourself through your writing?
How do you feel when people appreciate your work or recognize you in public?
It's an awesome feeling when someone recognizes you as an author. I had AT&T come to install my internet and while he was there, he asked if I was Laura Daleo the author. When I said I was, he was excited to tell his girlfriend as she'd read all my books. I gave him a signed copy to give to her. It was a surreal moment, to be sure. It made me realize the power of writing and how it can touch people's lives. It also made me very grateful for having the opportunity to share my stories with the world.
Who is your favorite author? Why?
Anne Rice is my favorite author. She is the reason I became an author. Her writing style immerses you directly into the story. You're right there with the characters, experiencing what they do. Her stories are full of intricate, powerful characters and vivid, imaginative worlds. I owe her a debt of gratitude for inspiring me to pick up the pen and write.
What’s the dream? Whom would you like to be as big as?
Would you rewrite any of your books? Why?
If you could switch places with any author – who would that be?
What would you say to the “trolls” on the internet? We all know them – people who like to write awful reviews to books they’ve never read or didn’t like that much, just to annoy the author.
What would you say to your readers?
Share a bit about yourself – where do you live, are you married, do you have kids?
I'm originally from San Diego, and I moved to Tucson Arizona in 2022 after purchasing a home. I love all animals. I have two dogs, Rose and Cooper who are my furry kids. I'm passionate about animal rights and determined to make a difference in animals' lives everywhere.
What is your day job if you have one?
I'm an Accounts Payable Manager, managing a team of 5 employees for a medical diagnostic company. My team is responsible for processing invoices, reconciling accounts, and handling any discrepancies. We strive to make sure that the company is compliant with all applicable laws and regulations, while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.
What are your hobbies? What do you do in your free time?
I love cooking, reading, writing, fashion, and music. I majored in Fine Arts in college and love drawing portraits in pencil. I'm always looking for new ways to express myself through art. I also like to explore different types of music and discover new trends in fashion. I'm always open to learning new skills and expanding my knowledge.
