Exclusive Interview with
Angel Power

When did you start writing?
I have been writing for over 25 years in one form or another. I freelanced and wrote for magazines and newspapers. I began writing my first novel over 30 years ago, but never finished it. The unfinished manuscript, No Place Like Home, gathered dust for decades until I finally completed it a few years ago, and now it has been published.

What makes writing your passion?
I'm a storyteller. Writing allows me the opportunity to share my stories and the stories of others with my readers.

How long have you been writing?
I have been writing novels since 2019, and during COVID, writing books seemed to take the forefront, with being isolated.

What was the feeling when you published your first book?
There were a multitude of feelings. I was scared, excited and felt very accomplished.

What’s the story behind your choice of characters?
The characters in my novels develop themselves during the writing process.

What annoys you the most in pursuing a writing career?
Being interrupted when I'm on a roll.

How do you get over the “writer’s block”?
Writer's Block for me comes with every novel. I usually take a few days off to do something different. I get away from the computer and get outside. Writer's block can last a few days or weeks, but eventually, I settle down and get started again. If I start writing something, the rest will flow, and then I can edit out what I don't want in the second draft.

We all know the writer’s path is never easy, what makes you keep going? What advice would you give to new authors?
I love to write and see the end result. For new authors, just keep writing, no matter what it is. I'm a pantser writer, and everything usually works itself out in the wash. Keep going, never give up.

If you could go back in time and talk to your younger self, what would you say?
Don't leave the partially finished manuscript of No Place Like Home gathering dust. Finish it!

Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with the bad ones?
Yes, I read them. The bad ones are welcome despite the review being bad. The reader has read my book, and any review, good or bad, can be helpful when developing future novels.

What is the feeling when you get a good review?
It's awesome! Somedays it is what sparks me to write.

Have you ever incorporated something that happened to you in real life into your novels?
Yes, my novels are stories and incorporate numerous personal experiences. My research is hands-on and as interactive as possible. I am currently working on my spring 2026 release, set against the backdrop of the harness racing industry. It has entailed a year's worth of research, including conversations with owners, drivers, trainers, and extensive learning. It is one of the things I like most about writing: the research, the interviews, and then seeing it all unfold between the covers.

Which of your characters you can compare yourself with? Did you base that character on you?
I relate to all my main characters in some form or another; there is a piece of me in each one.

What do you think, the book cover is as important as the story?
Yes, the book cover is as important as the story. A cover should capture a reader's attention enough for the reader to pick up the book and take a look inside. It is the first impression readers receive before purchasing the book.

Do you connect with your readers? Do you mind having a chat with them or you prefer to express yourself through your writing?
I love connecting with readers and hearing that they have read one of my novels. Whether they enjoyed it or not. If they didn't, I'm very interested in why. I believe feedback, good or bad, plays a crucial role in our growth as writers.

How do you feel when people appreciate your work or recognize you in public?
I love it when people appreciate my work. I have never been recognized in public as an author, so it is hard for me to say how I will react if this happens.

Who is your favorite author? Why?
This is a hard one. I have numerous and diverse reading interests. I read many different genres. To say one author is my favourite, I don't think I can pinpoint just one.

What’s the dream? Whom would you like to be as big as?
The dream is to make a living from writing and have readers anticipate the next release. I would like to be as successful as Nora Roberts.

Would you rewrite any of your books? Why?
I haven't thought about rewriting any of my books.

If you could switch places with any author – who would that be?
Nora Roberts - I would like to experience a week in the life of.

What would you say to the “trolls” on the internet? We all know them – people who like to write awful reviews to books they’ve never read or didn’t like that much, just to annoy the author.
While working in the entertainment industry, I learned that any publicity is good publicity, whether positive or negative. Sometimes, negative publicity can fuel people's interest in reading the book as much as positive publicity does. In the music industry, look at Nickelback. People love to hate them.

What would you say to your readers?
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for purchasing one of my novels and taking the time to read it. I am grateful and sincerely appreciate your support.

Share a bit about yourself – where do you live, are you married, do you have kids?
I live in Nova Scotia, Canada, and have two children.

What is your day job if you have one?
My day job is writing. It is what I do.

What are your hobbies? What do you do in your free time?
I enjoy horseback riding, hiking, and traveling to new places, where I meet new people, which in turn can inspire the pages of an upcoming novel.

Did you have a happy childhood?
Yes. I was extremely fortunate in that regard.

Is there a particular experience that made you start writing?
I guess what put me on the path to writing novels full-time was that I suffered an injury falling off a horse. I couldn't do much for close to three months. This is when I decided to write my first novel, and I've been writing books ever since.

Do you have unpublished books? What are they about?
I have completed my new release for fall about a young female truck driver and am working on my novel for a spring 2026 release, set against a harness racing backdrop.

What do you think should be improved in the education of our children? What do we lack?
Acceptance and respect for one another's individuality.

If you were allowed 3 wishes – what would they be?
Immortality - I love life! It's not always fun, exciting, and adventurous, but the wonderful days far outweigh the troublesome ones.
A book on the New York Times Best Sellers List would be great, and
It would be wonderful to be able to eat whatever I wanted without gaining weight. lol

What is your favorite music?
This is another tough one. I listen to a wide range of music genres. I think music is a personal thing and reflects one's feelings in the moment. I enjoy a variety of genres, including Opera, Classical, Heavy Metal, Country, Pop, Jazz, Blues, and Big Band, depending on my mood.

Share a secret with us 🙂
If I share a secret, it wouldn't be a secret. lol However, at one point, I was an oversized and heavy-haul truck driver. It was my experiences and the people I met while driving a truck that fueled my first novel and my new fall release - Looking at Life Through the Windshield.
