Exclusive Interview with
Alexi Ferreira
When did you start writing?
I started writing in early 2016, I'm an avid reader and at the time wondered why not try it myself and have the endings and story the way I wanted it. Now four years later I have two series that are on Amazon.
What makes writing your passion?
The feedback I get from my readers inspires me to write more. Knowing that for a short moment in time I am taking them away from reality into a world of my making drives my passion to write.
How long have you been writing?
Writing my books, just over four years but the passion for writing started when I was still in school.
What was the feeling when you published your first book?
An unexplained feeling of accomplishment and excitment, that something I wrote was out there for people to read.
What’s the story behind your choice of characters?
I build my characters based on the type of story I'm writing. I place myself in those circumstances and what I would do if it was me.
What annoys you the most in pursuing a writing career?
The constant marketing.
How do you get over the “writer’s block”?
So far I haven't had writer's block, and hopefully I never come to know what it's like.
We all know the writer’s path is never easy, what makes you keep going? What advice would you give to new authors?
As I said previously the support of my readers, their reviews, their comments on social media ignites my constant drive to continue. My advice is, don't force it, let it come naturally.
If you could go back in time and talk to your younger self, what would you say?
That I should have started writing sooner.
Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with the bad ones?
I try to better myself with whatever reviews I receive. I see those as a means to find gaps in my writing.
What is the feeling when you get a good review?
I love it. It's a feeling of accomplishing something that others appreciate.
Have you ever incorporated something that happened to you in real life into your novels?
No, all my books are 100% fictional.
Which of your characters you can compare yourself with? Did you base that character on you?
I haven't based any characters on myself, I'm sure their are traits about myself that might filter through but not purposefully.
What do you think, the book cover is as important as the story?
Yes, I love the whole concept of the work that goes into the covers. I believe that the cover is an important factor to selling a book.
Do you connect with your readers? Do you mind having a chat with them or you prefer to express yourself through your writing?
I get alot of messages and emails from my readers and I love connecting with them.
How do you feel when people appreciate your work or recognize you in public?
To be honest I feel awkward.
Who is your favorite author? Why?
My favourite author I would say is Diana Gabaldon, I love the way she brings a book to life.
What’s the dream? Whom would you like to be as big as?
I'm happy being where I am, but my dream would be to make a TV series out of my Elemental's MC series.
Would you rewrite any of your books? Why?
-
If you could switch places with any author – who would that be?
I'm happy being myself.
What would you say to the “trolls” on the internet? We all know them – people who like to write awful reviews to books they’ve never read or didn’t like that much, just to annoy the author.
The people leaving spiteful reviews without even reading a book is done out of malice and people like that are very sad and frustrated humans that don't realise the impact that sometimes spiteful words have on others. I would say to them, don't throw stones in glass houses.
What would you say to your readers?
Thank you so much for your unwavering support, without you this dream wouldn't be possible.
Share a bit about yourself – where do you live, are you married, do you have kids?
I'm living in the UK, but I lived in South Africa most of my life even though my parents were portuguese. I have a beautiful daughter that is my best friend and supports me in this crazy life I have chosen, and I have a great son that doesnt live with me anymore as he is married and is building his own life with his wife. My children and daughter in law are what drives me to be the best person that I can be. I'm not married but am in a relationship with a great man.
What is your day job if you have one?
-
What are your hobbies? What do you do in your free time?
I love to paint, I used to ride a Harley but since moving to the UK haven't bought one here. I love reading and baking in my spare time.
Did you have a happy childhood?
I had a wonderful childhood, my parents were the best parents anyone could ever ask for. I have three older brothers that still today are protective and caring.
Is there a particular experience that made you start writing?
No
Do you have unpublished books? What are they about?
I am working on a Young adult series, something completely different to what I write. It's about a Fae Kingdom and five sisters with specific powers that will help save them from the evil that is coming.
What do you think should be improved in the education of our children? What do we lack?
I think children should have more reading time, of whatever books they wish. Sometimes children are put off reading because of the types of books they are made to read.
If you were allowed 3 wishes – what would they be?
That my kids have everything they need and have a happy, healthy life.
That I am able to turn my books into a TV series bringing my creative world to others in a different way.
That I live a long healthy, happy life surrounded by the people I love and care for.
What is your favorite music?
A bit of everything
Share a secret with us 🙂
I'm a sucker for romance, to the point that I don't watch movies or read books if I know that someone dies in the movie or book.
