Description
The Guidi family of Florence and Tuscany is ancient, powerful, wealthy, and at war with itself. In the winter of 1302, the most infamous son of the Guidi, Alessandro Guidi da Romena a quarrel with one of his brothers-in-law, Tommaso Guidi da Porciano comes to a head, and Alessandro is murdered on Christmas Day. Alessandro's widow gives birth to his posthumous son three months later, and she takes up the battle on behalf of the boy and mostly for herself. In 1327, Francesco Guidi da Romena takes up arms against Tommaso and his family.
