Barnes Walker is a 41-year-old divorced man with a distrust of womankind and a serious nightmare problem. He lives a predictable life until he’s arrested and incarcerated in a police cell. A murder charge is threatened.
Eventually, he’s released, but finds himself with a problem: he needs to discover exactly what happened, and why. With the aid of three people, a troubleshooter, his assistant and a devious person with criminal connections, Barnes embarks on the quest.
Not succumbing to threats, he goes on the offensive and finds a tangled web of intrigue. He also finds himself falling for a woman totally unlike other’s he’s known. He becomes worried for her safety because of their association.
He acquires a box full of old documents, and finds a few answers. Somewhere, there is a concealed secret. Somebody wants this secret and is prepared to kill to get it. Barnes determines to find them and put an end to the situation. He sets a trap; this misfires and on a windswept moorland hillside he finds himself in mortal danger—there is a gunshot…
