About The Author
The author, Rebecca Wells Phillips, enjoys writing poetry, LGBTQ+ adult fiction (Butterfly Blossoms and Dragonfly Passion by Rachel Bleu), short stories (Homelessness Again, It’s Only a Dream, and Divine Intervention), memoirs (Hating Self and Loving Self by Boo Black), and historical nonfiction (Hurricane Helene Resiliency After the Storm Part One). She is also writing Lift Our Voice: Abuse Survivors Speak Their Truth, which will be released in November 2026.
Born in a small town in Tennessee, Rebecca waited until she had moved to Asheville, North Carolina, to publish her first book, Hating Self by Boo Black (November 2023). Butterfly Blossoms by Rachel Bleu was released on September 25, 2024, just two days before Hurricane Helene decimated Western North Carolina with flooding and mudslides. That is when she decided to share survivor stories in Hurricane Helene Resiliency After the Storm Part One. Rebecca utilized her knowledge of broadcast journalism and English from Carson-Newman University to convey the raw emotions of those who lived through a natural disaster.
Her pen name, Boo Black, emphasizes that people are not alone, that the burdens they carry are meant to help others, and that in life, we should strive to turn our pain into purpose. The author seeks to educate, entertain, and change the world around her. For additional information about the author, please visit her website at www.rebeccawellsphillips.com. Short Stories by the Author

It's Only A Dream
Wendy felt herself lifting off the bed and floating out the window. She could see that the wet streets below were practically empty of any activity. She remembered falling asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow because she’d had a long and stressful day at work. She loved being a nurse, but with the staff shortages, she needed two more nurses to care for all her patients successfully. It was tough for the geriatric patients because they tended to be quite needy, mainly because of their loneliness. As she continued floating higher and higher in the sky, Wendy could see a bright light surrounding her, like a spotlight at a comedy show.

Divine Connection
The hustle and bustle of the streets was causing too much anxiety for Cindy, and she hoped that moving to the country would be a better environment for her mental health. Living in New York City had been difficult for her because she’d grown up in a small, farming community in South Dakota, and everyone knew everyone else.

Homeless Again
HOMELESS AGAIN
Standing at the bus stop, Gretchen hid from the torrential rains falling around her. The heavy rains had ruined the colorful landscape of multicolored leaves littering the streets. Thankful for the brief respite, she contemplated her next move. “Why does this keep happening to me?” she asked, already knowing the answer.
